Lontalius Unveils Heartfelt Single 'Optimistic'

Friday 5th October, 2018 3:21PM

Wellington songwriter Lontalius (aka Eddie Johnston) has shared a heartstring-tugging single titled ‘Optimistic’. The intimate number was written in Los Angeles and is co-produced by Grammy Award-winner Om’Mas Keith, and arrives just in time for the songwriter's three-date tour of Aotearoa with rising industrial pop artist October - kicking off tonight with a free show at Dunedin's New New New Corp. Lontalius owned the stage at last night's APRA Silver Scroll Awards ceremony at Auckland's Spark Arena, playing an emotive rendition of finalist Chelsea Jade's song 'Laugh It Off'. He provided detailed insight into the process of his wide-eyed new single’s creation in a statement...

"Optimistic was one of the first sketches me and Om'mas made together. It was initially this droney / ambient thing, never shorter than 6 minutes. just the repeating "I'm ambitious / I'm optimistic' line. Out the other end it became something much more focused, something I'm really proud of.

The lyrics are centered around a shared anxiety over youth, love and the beginnings of a career. When you put yourself out in the world, you're desperate for some kind of response.""

Lontalius is playing with October tonight at Dunedin's New New New Corp (free show), at Wellington's Caroline on Saturday 6th October, and at Auckland's Anthology Lounge on Friday 12th October. Head over here to suss tickets.
