Mel Parsons Announces Album Release Tour + Shares Single 'Blame'

Friday 12th October, 2018 9:00AM

Award-winning indie-folk artist Mel Parsons has unveiled 'Blame', the latest single from her upcoming album Glass Heart which is out in late November. If that's not enough excitement for fans of the staunchly independent, Auckland-based songwriter, Parsons has also announced a three-date summer tour of Aotearoa in celebration of her record's forthcoming release, happening in Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch this December.

Mel Parsons' fourth studio album Glass Heart was recorded in Los Angeles with acclaimed producer Mitchell Froom (Crowded House, Suzanne Vega, Elvis Costello, Lindsey Buckingham / Christine McVie), and features a top-tier cast of guest collaborators including bass player Kaveh Rastegar (John Legend, Sia), guitarist Adam Levy (Norah Jones), drummer Ted Poor (Andrew Bird) and Froom on keyboards, filling the shoes of her local band. Parsons shared her thoughts around the reflective and lushly orchestrated new single, stating “’Blame’ is confronting and comforting at the same time... it’s a really sad song, maybe one of the darkest I’ve written.” Scope out tour details here and stream 'Blame' below...

Press release:

Indie-folk artist Mel Parsons will release her fourth studio album GLASS HEART on November 30.

Today she gives fans another taste of what’s to come on the record with the release of ‘Blame’.

The Kiwi singer and songwriter has today also announced a three-date GLASS HEART album tour, which will see her and her band play Meow in Wellington on December 5; Anthology Lounge in Auckland on December 6 and LAF in Christchurch on December 8.

Following on from the release of the album’s first official single ‘I Got The Lonely’, ‘Blame’ is a mournful track, laced with the echo of lost potential. “’Blame’ is confronting and comforting at the same time... it’s a really sad song, maybe one of the darkest I’ve written,” says Parsons of the song.

The song kicks off the 10-track GLASS HEART, laying the foundations for a bold and beautifully crafted body of work, which sees Parsons revealing a darker, fuller sound. The album was recorded in Los Angeles with celebrated US producer Mitchell Froom (Crowded House, Suzanne Vega, Elvis Costello, Lindsey Buckingham/Christine McVie).

In the absence of her Kiwi band, Parsons also recorded the record with an incredible cast of US-based musicians, including bass player Kaveh Rastegar (John Legend, Sia), guitarist Adam Levy (Norah Jones), drummer Ted Poor (Andrew Bird) and Froom on keyboards.

Parsons has been at the forefront of the indie-folk movement in New Zealand, forging her own path as an independent, self-managed artist.

No stranger to hitting the road, Parsons has won over the audiences the old-fashioned way through live performance. She is arguably one of New Zealand’s most prolific touring acts, and is excited to finally be taking her new record GLASS HEART directly to fans this December.
