Wal Purgis & His Werewolves Unleash Wild Single 'Animal Instinct'

Local independent flag flyers Stink Magnetic Co. tackled this year's International Cassette Day like a laser-focussed All Black, unleashing not one but two highly covetable limited edition tape releases - a self-titled album from Christchurch's Damned Evangelist (which we featured here), and a collection of vintage recordings by garage punks Wal Purgis & His Werewolves. A supergroup featuring the enigmatic Purgis, Dylan Herkes (Pro Drag, Chandeliers, brother of Tape Man / Lightning Tape Wolf) and monsterbilly icon Boss Christ, the trio originally got together all the way back in the early 2000s to lay down a grizzled selection of rocking tunes now collected as a handy cassette-only release for the very first time. Herkes' shared a few words on the origins of the tape, stating "we recorded it in Martinborough town hall about fifteen years ago... it’s mostly covers of songs we like but there’s a couple of originals. The hall cost about $25 to hire for the entire weekend!!"
