Lawrence Arabia Unveils Blissful Single 'A Walk In The Suburbs'

Thursday 25th October, 2018 9:48AM

Lawrence Arabia aka James Milne's ambitious 2018 Singles Club project has reached song number nine following a diverse and catchy monthly run featuring guest stars galore, including Tiny Ruins, Alistair Deverick (Boycrush), Elroy Finn and Heather Mansfield (The Brunettes). After such an impressive output, who would blame the hard-working artist for taking time out to shoot the breeze with 'A Walk In The Suburbs'. The Auckland-based songwriter's meandering tune is a gentle stroll through carefully constructed, blissful chamber-pop instrumentation featuring Peau Halapua on violin. Like a modern flaneur Milne sings the praises of his newfound surroundings with such lines as "Got a Westfield tan, a phone plan, a smoothie / And everything was right in the world." Each single from Lawrence Arabia's ongoing project is accompanied by an enigmatic minimal clear-line image, in this case of a disposable cup - is Milne sending a secret coded message with these images, perhaps a cry for help from his self-imposed studio prison, or are they simply references to objects and themes in his songs? Enjoy Lawrence Arabia's 'A Walk In the Suburbs' here...

The songs from Lawrence Arabia's 2018 Singles Club will be collected together as an album at the end of the year.
