Marlon Williams To Perform With The Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra

Thursday 1st November, 2018 8:14AM

Lyttelton songwriter Marlon Williams has achieved a commanding year, his sophomore record Make Way For Love topped the NZ album charts and garnered significant acclaim worldwide, he swept away the 2018 APRA Silver Scroll Award for his heartbreaking song with Aldous Harding 'Nobody Gets What They Want Anymore', and he even made moves to conquer Hollywood with his appearance in Bradley Cooper’s showbiz-themed blockbuster A Star Is Born. To cap it all off and to get 2019 off on the good foot, Williams has announced a special headline performance with the Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra at Auckland's Villa Maria Estate in February. The artist and his band (Dave Khan, Ben Woolley, Gus Agars and Dan Luscombe) will be accompanied by the APO to reimagine songs from Make Way For Love, with the organisers promising exciting support artists to be revealed in the near future. Here's the details shared so far...

Press release:

Just announced today Marlon Williams will grace the stage of Auckland’s most picturesque outdoor venue this summer, Villa Maria Winery. Reimagining songs from his #1 NZ album Make Way For Love, Marlon will perform alongside his band (Dave Khan, Ben Woolley, Gus Agars and Dan Luscombe) and the Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra for a spectacular night of song.

2018 APRA Silver Scroll recipient for his song Nobody Gets What They Want Anymore, Marlon Williams is in the midst of possibly the most career making year of his life! An album tour which has taken him around the globe for the majority of this year playing festivals and selling out headline tours, an acting part in Bradley Cooper’s Hollywood film directorial debut A Star Is Born, FOUR nominations at this year’s Vodafone New Zealand Music Awards, it’s time for this long-awaited homecoming. And what a show to come home to!

The Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra is New Zealand’s full-time professional Metropolitan orchestra. Renowned for its innovation, passion and versatility, the APO has collaborated with some of New Zealand’s most inventive artists and this partnership with Marlon and his moving catalogue of songs will be something to be treasured.

By and large this night will be memorable for an abundance of reasons. Fans are advised to tune in over the coming weeks as some very special guests will be announced to perform at Villa Maria Winery ahead of Marlon’s performance.

Villa Maria Winery is an all-ages venue, and as a special offer to families, one child under 12 is welcome free per a ticketed adult.
