Berlin progressive metal crew The Ocean Collective aka The Ocean are returning to Aotearoa for the first time since 2015. The group are touring on the back of their brand new seventh full-length offering Phanerozoic I: Palaeozoic, which references the 500 million-year eon in Earth’s formation which led up to the present day, and is currently the number one best-selling metal album on Bandcamp in the world. If you needed any convincing of the band’s caliber, they run acclaimed post rock / post-metal label Pelagic Records and have shared the stage with mind-expanding heavy acts such as Opeth, Mastodon, The Dillinger Escape Plan, Anathema, as well as Japanese post-rock maestros Mono, which the crew shared a split 7” vinyl release with in 2015. Press Release:

Berlin-based musician group THE OCEAN COLLECTIVE return to New Zealand after a sell out NZ show in 2015. Since 2001, THE OCEAN have released 7 critically acclaimed studio albums, and a split EP with Japanese post-rock legends Mono. With an ever-changing lineup of various on and off-stage musicians and visual artists, the relentlessly touring group have become well known for their immense, mind-expanding live shows, which they have carried into the most remote corners of the globe, from Siberian squats to colonial theatres in Ecuador.

Over the course of their storied career, THE OCEAN have toured with heavyweights such as Opeth, Mastodon, Mono, The Dillinger Escape Plan, and Anathema, among others. and have appeared at major festivals such as Roskilde, Roadburn, Wacken, and more. The bands own Pelagic Records has also become one of Europes leading labels for post-rock and post-metal, with a catalog of 120 releases since 2009. This tour will see THE OCEAN bringing their recently finished album Phanerozoic Vol 1 to audiences and is the missing link between their Precambrian and Heliocentric/ Anthropocentric. Earth development and history nerds, eat your hearts out.
