French For Rabbits Announce 'Highest Hill' Tour

Wednesday 7th November, 2018 12:00PM

Wellington-based dream-folk artists French For Rabbits are embarking on an audio-visual odyssey this December, joining forces with multimedia artist Lady Lazer Light for a special three date North Island tour. The shows will see the core team of Brooke Singer and John Fitzgerald performing with Hikurangi Schaverien-Kaa (Glass Vaults, Shake’em-Downers), Penelope Esplin (Moonlander, Grawlixes) and Ben Lemi (Trinity Roots, Dawn Diver, Congress of Animals), engulfed in an "ethereal visual dreamscape" featuring a selection of projected visuals from the band's back catalogue and beyond.

French For Rabbits are touring in celebration of their brand new single 'Highest Hill' out on on 27th November, ahead of next years's international re-release of their sophomore album The Weight of Melted Snow and accompanying US tour, with an appearance at Austin's SXSW Music Festival thrown in for good measure. The band shared their excitement about the upcoming musical adventures...

“We’ve just signed with a wonderful US label who are releasing our album The Weight of Melted Snow internationally early next year before we tour the US and play SXSW for the first time in March. It has been a long time coming for the album to get a release outside of New Zealand, so we’re obviously quite excited.”

We wrote and recorded Highest Hill this year, and decided it felt like it fit with the album, instead of on something new – a cherry on top for everyone overseas who has been waiting patiently to hear it all”.

Press release:

New Zealand dream folk pioneers French for Rabbits are returning to the stage in December for three very special concerts, combining film projection with their music for the first time in Wellington, New Plymouth and Auckland.

For the shows, each venue will be enveloped in an ethereal visual dreamscape, employing the full five-piece band and visual projections featuring unseen footage from the bands back catalogue of music videos, and curated by visual artist Lady Lazer Light.

The Highest Hill tour also celebrates a new single due out on November 27th.

“We’ve just signed with a wonderful US label who are releasing our album The Weight of Melted Snow internationally early next year before we tour the US and play SXSW for the first time in March. It has been a long time coming for the album to get a release outside of New Zealand, so we’re obviously quite excited.”

French for Rabbits have been performing since 2012, racking up over 12 million plays on Spotify, touring Europe five times, and opening for Lorde, Marlon Williams and Agnes Obel.

The band features core members Brooke Singer and John Fitzgerald, alongside talented drummer Hikurangi Schaverien-Kaa (Glass Vaults, Shake’em-Downers), and multi-instrumentalists Penelope Esplin (Moonlander, Grawlixes) and Ben Lemi (Trinity Roots, Dawn Diver, Congress of Animals).

On the tour they will also be joined by special guests Mystery Waitress in Wellington, Sam Egli in New Plymouth, and Mali Mali in Auckland.

Tickets are available now from undertheradar.co.nz for Auckland and Wellington, or from the 4th Wall Theatre’s website for New Plymouth.
