Watch Dudley Benson's Powerful Video 'Cook Beleaguered'
Dunedin alt-pop singer and producer Dudley Benson has unveiled a stunning self-directed video for his song 'Cook Beleaguered'. Initially depicting the artist meditating on a painting of English navigator Captain James Cook by Nigel Brown (who also appears in the first scene), the clip delivers a powerful commentary on colonialism in Aotearoa, utilising a blend of choreography, costuming and symbolism to carry Benson's message. The artist has stated the costs involved in performing songs from his new album Zealandia live are currently prohibitive, which isn't so surprising when you consider the ambitious record features over one hundred and sixty contributors, including the Dunedin Symphony Orchestra, the New Zealand Youth Choir, and even beats made with GNS Science geologists. Benson has been keeping Zealandia in the public eye with a well-paced rollout of videos and remix collections shining the spotlight on individual songs. Experience 'Cook Beleaguered' here...
