Premiere: Harry Parsons Shares Sparkling Single 'Friends'

Friday 30th November, 2018 11:12AM

Auckland-based songsmith Harry Parsons has unveiled 'Friends', a romantic summer pop tune with a tropical twist, the latest in a run of standalone single releases. No relation to NZ songwriter Mel Parsons who has an album out today, Harry Parsons' bouncy tune finds the singer getting hopeful about life and love, showcasing the artist's silky smooth vocal talents and playful instrumentation. He's popping the cork on the song with a launch party at Kingsland's Portland Public House on Saturday 1st December, with support from East of Queen (aka Parsons' sister Katherine) opening and local trio Brother Sister rounding things up. We caught up with Parsons who generously shed light on the thoughts and feelings behind his infectious single and upcoming release plans...

"I wrote this song a on the couch whilst aimlessly strumming my guitar and the words just sort of fell out. I guess as a whole it's a reflection on unrealistic crushes and how flustered and useless its can make you feel when you try and talk to said crush, constantly questioning wether what you said was cool, did they like that joke etc. It came from a very honest and raw perspective, which is why it only took like half an hour to get the core of the song out of me. I like to think what I'm singing is going to be something instinctively recognisable seeing as we've all been in a similar situation, even though the emotions can feel so personal. I hope it brings comfort and even maybe a chuckle to my friends and listeners who are (or who have been) in the same boat.

This is the third song I've made with my friend Carlos Barnett producing. We had a lot of fun making it and just let loose, playing the constant thought flow of the words with a cheeky, bouncy rhythm and (my favourite part) OTT Hawaiian slide guitar. I definitely think it's my favourite one of ours yet!

Also got the opportunity to shoot a video with a talented guy called Aidan Rogers. Completely shot on super 8, coming very soon! My plans for the new year are to release an EP with this song, my latest 'Letting Go' and a few newbies, i just feel like it's time to release a body of work, I'm ready for that step."

'Friends' is out now via iTunes, Apple Music and Spotify.
