Connan Mockasin 'Jassbusters' New Zealand Shows Announced
New Zealand-born psych-rock superstar Connan Mockasin is returning to Aotearoa for a special pair of multimedia events this March. He's celebrating the release of his third studio album Jassbusters with exclusive screenings of an episode of Boston 'n' Dobsyn, the artist's five-part directorial debut released in conjunction with the new record, followed with live performances by Mockasin's Jassbusters band. The film is a melodrama about a band of music teachers starring the songwriter and his childhood friend Blake Pryor, originally conceived as DIY comic books more than two decades ago. Press release:
Witness the world’s first absurdist drama as Connan Mockasin presents an exclusive screening of an episode of his film 'Bostyn ‘n Dobsyn', featuring material from his new concept album ‘Jassbusters’, the follow up to 2013’s critically acclaimed album ‘Caramel’.
The Wellingtons' Opera House and Auckland's Civic Theatre events will see Connan unveil 'Jassbusters' to the world, an idiosyncratic band of high school music teachers fronted by Mr. Bostyn - the ageing guitarist who plays the starring role in the accompanying film. Connan and his band will round off the night with a live performance.
Connan Mockasin released his first album ‘Forever Dolphin Love’ in 2010, and has gone on to build a devoted worldwide fan base. He has toured with Radiohead, and has collaborated with the likes of Charlotte Gainsbourg, James Blake and MGMT.
