Same Name Confusion Share Single 'Must Be Lucky' + Video
Wellington-based alt-pop crew Same Name Confusion have unveiled a passionate video for their new single 'Must Be Lucky', drawn from their forthcoming debut In Theory EP, dropping on Friday 11th January. Shot by Benji Hartfield, the clip shows a character executing a dramatically theatrical performance with expressive movements and facials. At first it appears he is performing to you (the audience) but later it’s revealed he’s just performing to himself in a mirror. As he repeatedly sings "I don’t have many friends," the realisation emits a bit of irony. The group shared their ideas around the audio / visual work in an accompanying statement (head along to their website here for an unabridged version of the text)...
"I wanted to take people deeper - into the song, into the mind of the main character. It's this guy who just wants to entertain. He feels he needs to as well. Because if not him then who? I guess I've tried to produce three pieces under the same title that kind of build on one another. There's the just words version, then the song (words + music), and now the video with a visual element too. It's all the the same idea, people can consume it however they like"
