Melbourne-based expat songwriter Plum Green has returned with a soaring single inspired by "forbidden lust between friends, love and war" titled 'Cannibal'. The darkly haunting dream-pop tune is the latest song unveiled from her upcoming album Sound Recordings, her first collection since 2016's Karma, and is complimented by a candlelit video filmed, directed and edited by the ex-Wellington artist's friend and collaborator Kitty Jane which you can experience here for the very first time. Plum Green is returning to Aotearoa for a special album launch party at Auckland's Whammy Bar in early February, with local support from goth-glam grunge-psych crew Shoddy and His Master's Voice, head along here for more info on the event. Plum Green kindly took time out to share her excitement for the new video, Sound Recordings, and her upcoming touring plans, check out 'Cannibal' and read her words below...

What was the process involved in making your new video with Kitty Jane?

Me and Kitty are really close and spend a lot of time together, so we didn’t have to think or talk much about it. Kitty wanted to express a dark feminine sexuality, a sensuality and also a vulnerability that hasn’t been captured before in videos of me playing and singing. I think she absolutely nailed it in terms of honesty of expression and representation. Both of myself and the song.

What themes are you exploring with your new album Sound Recordings? How did that collection take shape over time?

It’s a collection of songs that have existed in the past from various releases (aside from Cannibal which is completely new). My band and I were planning a tour of Europe and I was interested in capturing a live sound that closely resembled how we sound on stage. I heard about this studio called ‘Sound Recordings’ which is an all analogue studio out in Castlemaine, Victoria (Australia) where all of the songs are recorded as they are performed live. That really appealed to us. It was a dreamy and surreal experience. We recorded during winter and we stayed in a little brick cabin on the studio grounds throughout the recording process.

How’s your music been received since moving to Melbourne?

Melbourne has been very kind and we’ve been able to build a wonderful little community of artists and friends. Melbourne is a very art focussed city with a lot going on, and everyone supports each other.

What's Plum Green's plans for the coming year?

We will be playing more shows around Australia, we’re working on another music video for later on in the year and always writing more music. We’ve started to talk about organising a second European tour.

'Sound Recordings' is out Tuesday 29th January digitally and on limited edition vinyl LP - head along to Plum Green's Bandcamp page here to pre-order your copy.
