Premiere: A.C. Freazy Shares Single 'Alien'

Wednesday 27th February, 2019 9:48AM

Auckland's A.C. Freazy aka the solo project of singer and multi-instrumentalist Alex Freer (Tiny Ruins) has returned with 'Alien', a stargazing standalone single putting his personal touch on the sci-fi cinematic works of Ridley Scott. The smooth-grooving tune sees Freer reimagining the perspective of the eponymous interloper from Scott's 1979 classic Alien, using that idea as a springboard to explore feelings of loneliness and romantic yearning. A core member of Tiny Ruins, you can catch Freer with the band celebrating the release of their superb new album Olympic Girls in Auckland and Wellington this March. Freer opened up about the origins of his slinky and reflective new song...

“It is Ridley Scott fanfic I wrote after watching his films while I had a fever... I hadn't seen those first two [Alien] films before and they're so cold and lonely in that it's from Ripley's perspective and it's her against everyone, and wanted to reimagine it from a fan-fiction perspective, in like, what if the alien was actually on her side? Maybe he was just misunderstood? It's a bit silly but I just got tired of writing about myself and my first world problems all the time."

Tiny Ruins are playing 'Olympic Girls' album release shows at Wellington's Te Auaha, Tapere Nui on Sunday 10th March, and Auckland's Pt Chev RSA on Saturday 16th March – for tickets and more info head along here.
