Kevin Morby Unveils Single 'No Halo' + Video
LA-based singer and multi-instrumentalist Kevin Morby's recent New Zealand appearance with Waxahatchee was in red-hot demand, requiring the show to be moved to a larger venue to accommodate the pair's fervent fans. Morby has today announced the upcoming release of his fifth solo studio album Oh My God, an ambitious double record the artist states is his first concept album, a "non-religious religious record" exploring "an outsider’s view of the human experience in terms of religion.” The former frontman of The Babies has also lifted the lid on 'No Halo', the lush lead single from his new collection, accompanied by an exceptionally stylish and surreal set-based clip directed by Christopher Good, unpacking Morby's themes in an alternate reality restaurant environment and beyond.
Morby explained the impulse behind the religious focus of his new album, stating “It’s a universal language and there is profound beauty in it. I’ve found it a useful tool within songwriting, as it’s something everyone can relate to on some level. There are religious themes or imagery in a lot of what I’ve done, so I wanted to get all of that out and speak only that language for a whole record. It’s not a born-again thing; it’s more that ‘oh my god’ is such a profound statement we all use multiple times a day and means so many different things. It’s not about an actual god but a perceived one, and it’s an outsider’s view of the human experience in terms of religion.”
'Oh My God' is out Friday 26th April on Dead Oceans / Rhythmethod.
