MF/MP Label Share Daisy Wells' 'Hypocrites' + SL's 'Live At The NOW Now'

NZ experimental imprint mf/mp have unveiled a fresh pair of releases showcasing adventurous electronic artists from Aotearoa and beyond. Released as gorgeously packaged limited edition CDRs, the new collections present works by London-based sound artist Daisy Wells and Auckland's SL, aka mf/mp label boss Sam Longmore. Hypocrites documents Wells' March 2018 performance at Auckland's Academy Cinema, where the artist was invited to create a live set to accompany Lois Webber's 1915 silent drama Hypocrites. Wells explains, "I treated Hypocrites with intimacy, reading and developing my relationship with the film and to Lois Webber (the film maker). The film is silent but it is loud. I spent a while drawing out the film makers voice, a guiding consciousness perpetually flows throughout the film. Webber is highly conscious of herself and her audience, she spits fire".

SL's Live At The NOW Now was recorded live in 2018 at Sydney's 107 Projects, as part of the city's long running NOW Now Festival. Over nearly 25 minutes Longmore blends together and contrasts tones drawn from such disparate sources as coffee grinders, electronic waves and field recordings of background sounds to beguiling effect, creating immersive sonic spaces that draw sly parallels with the explosion of ASMR recordings in popular culture. Both collections can be enjoyed via the streams below, or you can order your own irl copies to cherish forever from mf/mp's Bandcamp page here.
