South Auckland producer Mapili's breakbeat-drenched 2018 debut album Black Sheep, released by adventurous Tāmaki Makaurau label / collective The Grow Room, was a local highlight from last year, with its mind-mashing blend of club-focussed beat worship and playful sampledelica. Mapili is back with a fresh collection on their Bandcamp page, the promisingly named Strickly Jungle Vol. 1, which brings the heat straight out of the gate with pumping opener 'Danger'. The new eight track collection lives up to its title, alluding to the no-rules era of early 90s drum 'n' bass and 'ardcore – keeping the tempo high, the beats hectic and the timewarping synths-stabs firmly within a late night club zone.
