Alien Weaponry Unleash Heavy Cut 'Ahi Kā'
Aotearoa metal figureheads Alien Weaponry have dropped a heavy cut titled 'Ahi Kā', their first release since the trio's award-winning 2018 debut album Tū. 'Ahi Kā' appears on Adult Swim's compilation Metal Swim 2 set to release today, featuring such international heavy hitters as Author & Punisher, Eyehategod and Sunn O))). The track is hard hitting in both its sound and message, as the lyrics bring to light a New Zealand tragedy. Vocalist and guitarist Lewis de Jong tells the story of the Auckland City Council burning down the Māori village at Ōkahu Bay in 1951 ahead of Queen Elizabeth II’s visit, which he wanted to write about as "It's one of these untold stories in New Zealand history that really had a great impact on a lot of Maori". The forced eviction lead to decades of protesting and battling, as Ngāti Whātua Orākei fought to reclaim their land. Stream the song below, and take the opportunity to learn more about Aotearoa's history too…
'Ahi Kā' is online now and features on Adult Swim's compilation Metal Swim 2.
