Jarvis Cocker's New Band 'Jarv Is' Share Single ‘Must I Evolve’
Jarvis Cocker of Pulp fame has released a wild and somewhat educational single under Jarv Is, an aptly titled group compiled of Cocker, Serafina Steer, Emma Smith, Andrew McKinney, Jason Buckle and Adam Betts. They've been playing shows together around Europe and the US since 2017, with a bunch of festival sets under their belt and many ahead, as a band that almost solely existed through live shows – until now. ‘Must I Evolve’ is a psychedelic and off kilter track, that could probably just pass as biology course material with lines like “Cells start diving, a new organism: now we can go swimming in the primordial soup” but stops being a reliable scientific source as the lyrics delve into hot pants, horses and dance-offs. This is also the first we’ve heard from Cocker since he teamed up with Iggy Pop on a cover of Nick Cave’s ‘Red Right Hand’, but the group have stated it's unlikely we’ll hear more recorded music from Jarv Is any time soon. So make the most of it, and listen to Jarv Is’ ‘Must I Evolve’ (the answer is yes, btw)…
