Caught Live: The Chills Play 'Pink Frost' On KEXP
It's been a watershed year for Martin Phillipps, legendary frontman of The Chills and subject of Julia Parnell's superb documentary The Chills: The Triumph and Tragedy of Martin Phillipps, which shot the Dunedin songwriter firmly back into the public eye when it debuted earlier this year. The Chills helped launch the film with a series of performances at Austin's SXSW showcase in March, recognised by the long-running band receiving the massive festival's 2019 Grulke Prize for Career Act. They also squeezed in a live studio session at revered Seattle indie station KEXP while they were in the US, playing a generous 27 minute set of tunes including their iconic 1984 single 'Pink Frost', 'Deep Belief' from Phillipps' latest album Snow Bound, 'Underwater Wasteland' from 2015's Silver Bullets, and 'Wet Blanket' from 1987's Brave Words. Check out the spine-tingling footage of 'Pink Frost' here and enjoy the entire set below...
