Old Loaves Announce New Album 'Banks'
Auckland / Hamilton / Rotorua heavy hitters Old Loaves have returned to active duty with the imminent launch of their sophomore long player Banks, the trio's first album since 2012's Drowser. The trio of Ben Ward, Cameron Reid and John Strange are celebrating their long-awaited opus with a rare headline event at Tāmaki Makaurau's pillar of underground music Whammy Bar in late July, supported by sonic dynamos Tooms, Swallow The Rat and Repairs. Straddling realms of post-punk, sludge metal and doom, you can wrap your ears around the record's intensely emotive lead track 'Teenage Dreams' below, and look forward to new single 'Hounds' out this Friday. Singer and guitarist Ben Ward reflected on the formative experiences feeding into Old Loaves' latest songs...
"These songs revisit a specific period of my life, working a dead-end job in a glass factory. The night shift and work culture were unforgiving and while I was here I was unable to consider a fulfilling life. It was important to me to look in the rearview mirror and acknowledge just how grim this time of my life was in order to truly put this episode behind me."
