Premiere: Priya Drops Debut Single 'Keep On Explaining'
It is an absolute treat to be premiering the debut single from Priya, the solo project of Auckland soul singer Priya Sami (Trip Pony, The Sami Sisters, Dateline). 'Keep On Explaining' is a dreamy track that blossomed in Vizianagaram, India where Priya studied South Indian Traditional Carnatic Singing on a journey to connect with her Fijian / Indian ancestry. The track is about “small mindedness and ignorance and the exhaustion that comes with continuously calling it out”, and the first vocal sample came to fruition when she was holed up in her accomodation on the trip.
'Keep On Explaining' grew with punchy beats, lines like “I know it’s frustrating explaining the same old thing when they’re not even listening”, and the magical addition of vocals from Durga Bhavani, Swathi Krishnaswami and Maheswara Rao. With production from Jeremy Toy (Leonard Charles, She’s So Rad), and mastered by Grammy nominee Kelly Hibbert, Priya’s debut is a polished and glorious RnB gem - and there’s promise of a full length release by the end of the year. Prepare to get goosebumps from Priya’s vocals on ‘Keep On Explaining’…
