Iggy Pop Drops Sassy Single 'James Bond'
Iggy Pop kept listeners on their toes a couple of weeks back with 'Free', the chin-strokingly atmospheric title track to his forthcoming latest album, a collaboration with jazz trumpeter Leron Thomas and guitarist Noveller. The venerable punk frontman has revealed the latest sonic outpouring from that record, 'James Bond', presenting the legendary artist in a more familiar, yet refreshingly stripped-back mode. Pop is in absolutely superb voice as he spins a stealthy tale of ice-cold love and espionage – 'James Bond' gathers steam with crisply plucked guitars and bass evoking John Barry's classic movie theme, featuring backing vocals by Faith Vern (PINS) and a healthy dose of sassy trumpet thrown in for good measure.
Pop shared his enthusiasm for the song: "I don’t know what she’s up to exactly, but the tables seem to be turning, and she’s taking over. Well, why not? I’ll try anything once.
I’ve never had more fun singing a lyric. Faith’s reading is so loaded, and Leron’s production and trumpet along with the band swings like crazy."
'Free' is out on Friday 6th September via Caroline International / Loma Vista.
