Skux Drops Single 'Painted Blank' + Video

C.C. / Monday 12th August, 2019 1:59PM

Alaska by way of Aotearoa fuzz-popper Skux, the project of ex-Auckland Ayisha Jaffer, definitely grabbed our attention with her frenetic recent single 'Kudis', and she's now back with the one-two audio-visual punch of 'Painted Blank'. Tackling the tangled topic of relationship closure, 'Painted Black' is no less powerful than the previous tune but packs more emotional heft, shaking listeners out of their stupor with a non-stop bombardment of catchy hooks and cathartic lyrics. The single comes accompanied by a sun-baked clip, directed by Dolly Dagger and filmed in the Californian desert in 106° Fahrenheit heat. The well-travelled party punk artist opened up around the themes of the latest cut from her forthcoming debut EP, co-written with Dan Walker of The Death Set and dropping in late August....

"Painted Blank is the relationship closure song that your brain was culminating but your mouth didn’t let you say or perhaps your emotions spat them out in a different, more destructive way. This track demands reflection and accountability from partners of the past who would prefer to “click delete” and paint all of their memories blank. In the same breath, I also make it clear that the end does not mean that you have any less value or power, nor do you have to lose the memories you wanted to keep. When all is done and dusted then you dust that dirt off your shoulders and keep the rest."

'Kudis' is out on Friday 23rd August.
