Premiere: Green Grove Reveals Suspenseful Single 'The Sleuth'
Tāmaki Makaurau sonic voyager Green Grove, the alias of multi-instrumentalist and producer Durham Fenwick (Bozo, PG/VG, New Gum Sarn), is releasing his debut album Machine Music this coming Friday and has gifted us a second taste of that record's aural delights with new single 'The Sleuth', which we're proud to premiere here today. Green Grove's darkly compelling tune conjures a cinematic world of unsolved mysteries and edge of your seat thrills – aided and abetted by a leisurely-paced walking bassline, indecipherable sci-fi synth squelches, ominous vocal murmerings and tick-tocking percussion, 'The Sleuth' reveals its gloriously catchy secrets from around the halfway mark onward. The song is a highlight of Green Grove's shows with live band including members of Yoko-Zuna, Naenae Express and Peach Milk, which you can experience first-hand at their North Island album release events kicking off this week. Fenwick opened up about the audio / visual inspirations for 'The Sleuth'...
"Sonically I wanted to touch on spy / noir styles for this one... I have always loved a rotating bass line that just grooves out the whole song. I visually also wanted to add sci-fi and industrial references in there too.. hence the siren synth sounds and airy melody lines."
