Violent Femmes Returning To New Zealand In March 2020

C.C. / Monday 14th October, 2019 8:00AM

Violent Femmes are returning to Aotearoa in early 2020, with brand new album Hotel Last Resort in tow and a lifetime's supply of singalong anthems under their belts. The iconic Milwaukee group who soundtracked countless NZ house parties with such indelible classics as 'Blister In The Sun', 'Gone Daddy Gone', 'Kiss Off', 'Add it Up' and 'American Music' will play special headline events at Wellington's Opera House and Auckland's Logan Campbell Centre. Tracing their origins all the way back to 1980, Violent Femmes are still fronted by co-founders Gordon Gano and Brian Ritchie, joined by recent additions to the team Blaise Garza and John Sparrow. Make your pilgrimage to catch the US legends doing what they do best this coming March...

Press release:

Milwaukee’s finest, Violent Femmes are hitting Auckland and Wellington stages in March 2020 to perform songs so many Kiwis hold dear to their hearts.

Get ready for 'Blister In The Sun', 'Gone Daddy Gone', 'Kiss Off', 'Add it Up', 'American Music', 'Please Do Not Go' and so many more!

Violent Femmes eponymous debut from 1983 was the soundtrack for so many of our teen years. It was – and still remains - a firm favourite and a very influential record with its rugged pop sensibility and themes of alienation, isolation, sexual frustration and angst.

Violent Femmes have continued to release great albums, and for their return to New Zealand shores they come with a brand new album - their 10th - Hotel Last Resort, which resides among the band’s finest work, simultaneously refining and redefining their one-of-a-kind take on American music.

The album merges front porch folk, post punk, spiritual jazz, country blues, avant garde minimalism and golden age rock ‘n’ roll into something still altogether their own.

Don’t miss Violent Femmes – the legendary Gordon Gano, Brian Ritchie, Blaise Garza and John Sparrow - in Auckland and Wellington in March 2020 performing classics from across their entire career.
