Ōtepoti-based songwriter Emily Fairlight pulls listeners in with a powerful new track and an unsettling, appropriately spooky video for ‘Lips Lasso’ which we're proud to premier here. The dark-folk tune is the first single from Fairlight since her well-received 2018 collection Mother Of Gloom, and could be the very early whisper of another album brewing for 2020. Explained as a song "written in three different houses, in three very different states of mind about the same shit situation”, ‘Lips Lasso’ is heavy with strings from violinist Alex Vaastra, saturating the space between Fairlight and David Kilgour’s (The Clean, The Great Unwashed) steadfast guitars, and suitably gloomy for a song recorded in the hills overlooking Dunedin. The almost sinister clip was filmed in Christchurch, directed by Fairlight herself and shot by Julian Vares, who’s behind stacks of videos for local artists including Fazerdaze, Kane Strang and Yumi Zouma. Fairlight has a Dunedin show lined up for next weekend, but everyone else will just have to experience her latest release, ‘Lips Lasso’…

'Lips Lasso' is streamable now via Spotify.
