Tāmaki Makaurau rap duo Shiraz & LSJ have unveiled a panoramic video for 'AKLTown', drawn from their top notch and somewhat prophetically titled album Imported Smoke. That collection dropped in April and concluded a heroically rapid-fire run where they released three long players in less than twelve months, including the equally crucial Rap For Sport and Akl Maverickz. The pair are now back with notably cinematic visuals shot by Tak Soropa and Luca Macioce, shrugging off the lo-tech aesthetic of their earlier clips to convey a weightier tone. A jazz-inflected reflection on everyday life in the Super City, 'AKLTown' opens with images of the Ihumātao protests, depicting Shiraz & LSJ doing their own thing in the streets and suburbs of their hometown against a backdrop of ongoing political injustice.
