AK79 40th Anniversary Edition Announced
Regarded by many to be the most significant collection of punk rock anthems to emerge from Aotearoa, the scene-defining AK79 is receiving the deluxe reissue treatment from Flying Nun Records this December, in celebration of the compilation's 40th Anniversary. Capturing the riotous spirit of late 70s Tāmaki Makaurau punk culture in a nutshell, AK79 delivered a crucial document of such pioneering groups as The Scavengers, The Primmers, Proud Scum, The Terrorways, The Swingers and Toy Love (for a good stretch of time the only accessible way to hear them), with subsequent editions also featuring tracks by The Suburban Reptiles, The Spelling Mistakes, The Features and The Marching Girls. The freshly reissued version promises to "feature all songs ever featured on any version of AK79" and will be accompanied by comprehensive liner notes courtesy of Ripper Records chief Bryan Staff, who originally released the collection back in December 1979. There'll be a bevy of physical formats to choose from, with the album available on double LP limited edition red vinyl, standard black vinyl and CD, plus an awesome range of limited edition vintage t-shirt designs too!
