Lisa Crawley Shares Covers EP 'Songs I Like But Did Not Write Vol​.​1'

Tāmaki Makaurau songwriter Lisa Crawley dropped her hugely infectious single 'Best Thing In The Room' (featured in our November playlist) last month and has already followed though with Songs I Like But Did Not Write Vol​.​1, a covers EP reimagining classics by Blondie, Elliott Smith, Leonard Cohen and our very own Goodshirt. Trading the neo-soul grooves of her recent single for an intimate and emotive vocals and keys approach, the new five track collection presents the artist in superb voice throughout. Songs I Like But Did Not Write Vol​.​1 was recorded live at Canada's Banff Centre in one rapid-fire late night session and is bookended by playfully pared-back versions of Blondie's 'One Way Or Another' and 'Heart Of Glass'.

Heading off to Los Angeles this month to work on a new album, Lisa Crawley revealed the improvisational origins of her snappy latest collection: “It was 11:30pm, I’d just finished filming a music video and demoing about ten new songs in the studio. I had half an hour left and I didn’t want to make the most of it, so recorded my late night versions of songs I like, but did not write”
