It'll soon be time to spike up your mohawk and start shoving safety pins who-knows-where for Punk It Up 2020, the latest celebration of Aotearoa's storied punk history, returning in May and expanding to a two-night extravaganza at Tāmaki Makaurau's The Bluestone Room (fka Zwines). Promising more rabble-rousing classic and new artists than ever before, you'll want to get in early before the first fist-pumping lineup for the fifth edition of Punk It Up is announced – previous years have featured such legendary groups as Proud Scum, Terrorways, Spelling Mistakes and Newmatics. Back by popular demand, New Zealands collection of new and classic punk acts are getting ready to do it again, but this time, due to the overwhelming number of bands, theyre gonna kick off New Zealand Music Month with a 2 night extravaganza, and itll be at NZs birthplace of punk again, Zwines, or more correctly - The Bluestone Room in Aucklands CBD on Friday May 1st and Saturday May 2nd.

Punk It Up V will feature artists from both the good old days (before your XBox and the internet), when going out to see a band was about the only way you would hear them, combined with bands from the good new days, currently slogging the pubs, clubs, school halls, and friends living room scene (but who have their music on the streaming interwebs thingy the kids use nowadays). Both Friday and Saturday night will be full-on blasts of Short Haired Rock and Roll! As well as the usual suspects, theres a few surprizes in store as well, with artists who havent played in Auckland, or NZ for that matter, for quite some time. Put all that together with a massive lineup of DJs playing everything from punk to ska to reggae and anything else they want to, in between the bands (and late into the night at both nights after parties), information booths from some worthy causes, and the myriad of vendors plying their wares, like band t-shirts and records etc etc, and you have a night, or in this case 2 nights, that youll remember for a very very long time.

Therefore, while theyre finishing off the negotiations with all the interested bands for Punk It Up V, the PIU crew thought it would be good to offer the Earlybirds a Holiday Special for a limited time.
