Premiere: Girlboss Share Video For 'Real'

A.K. / Tuesday 17th December, 2019 9:53AM

Pōneke dream-poppers girlboss serve up a smashing clip for recent single 'Real', one of three tracks released this year following their gorgeous 2018 debut EP Body Con. From the mind of vocalist and songwriter Lucy Botting and directed by Samuel Austin, the visuals are centred around a series of slo-mo tennis matches, gradually morphing from friendly rallies to racquet-biffing tantrums. Botting so kindly typed up some answers to our prying e-questions, so click play below and scroll down to get to know the 'Real' girlboss...

What big goal do you have for girlboss for the next few years?

To record an album! We recorded a whole album last year and canned it. This time it's gonna be 4REAL.

What are the band dynamics? Who does what when it comes to songwriting and recording?

I write the songs and some of the guitar and bass and drum parts, but we also jam a lot of the parts too. And we have been pretty lucky with recording. Initially I recorded with my friend Jon and we did guitar and vocals at his house and recorded drums with a zoom mic and did midi bass. For our EP my cousin recorded us up in Auckland at a studio he works at and mixed it for free. After that we recorded at Jon's studio and Ed mixed 'Bully' and 'Real' for us.

Who's a band or artist you've been into to lately that you think everyone should be listening to?

I've been thrashing Big Thief, Dolly Parton, Solange and Travis Scott. Lil mixture but each with very obvious merits.

Will there be a summery girlboss song to counteract 'Winter Blues'?

Most possibly! I write a lot of pos music too.

What does the girlboss crew do when they're not writing and playing cool music?

When we are together we like to watch movies and relax. On Friday we watched Home Alone 2. Highlight was obviously Macaulay throwing bricks from the top of a building.
