Watch Wax Chattels' Chilling Clip For 'Career'
Wax Chattels' self-titled debut 2018 album is the post-punk gift that keeps on giving, with the Auckland trio most recently handing over their track 'Career' to Tāmaki Makaurau director Dylan Pharazyn. Speaking to video hosting site 1.4, Pharazyn confessed he actually contacted the band immediately after hearing the song on the radio, inspired by its dark atmospheric potential, "there’s this deathly dirge that builds so I began to feel out an idea of three characters and there being supernatural forces at work between them". Chattels' vocalist and bassist Amanda Cheng explained the lyrics are an exploration of the mental and physical sacrifices women make for success, prioritising work over health. The 'Career' visuals provide perfect parallels, with actor Crystal existing across three planes of reality, the trifecta that makes up Wax Chattels' itself, and the idea of forgoing self care for professional achievement. Wax Chattels' acclaimed self-titled debut album is out via Captured Tracks / Flying Nun Records.
