Mermaidens & Sea Mouse Soundtrack Your Valentine's Day
As February 14th aka Valentines Day looms near, Mermaidens sound their luring siren song and Sea Mouse prepare their cosy mice love-nests ahead of a steamy night of psychedelic rock 'n' roll. Ōtepoti's The Cook will transform into a rose-tinted tidal pool this Friday for the How Deep Is Your Love? double bill, welcoming sappy guppies, angel sharks and clown fish. All six Pōneke musicians from the two acts have put their hearts of their sleeves and spilled their favourite songs for romancing. Peep the rest of Sea Mouse's Tropical Fish album release tour below, and prepare to blush at the bands' saucy selected tracks...

GUSSIE LARKIN (Mermaidens): Haddaway - What is Love?
Ooh baby, take me back to 1993! No doubt about it, this is an absolute floor filler every time. I can’t even fathom how many people have made out to this on the d-floor over the last 20-something years. Heartbroken, lovesick or smitten, this is one to boogie to at full volume whatever romantic state you’re in.
LILY WEST (Mermaidens): Marlena Shaw / D’Angelo - Feel Like Makin’ Love
The title says it all honey. Go for the Marlena Shaw version for lovesick nights alone. D’Angelo’s when you’ve got company.
ABE HOLLINGSWORTH (Mermaidens): James Blake - Don't Miss It
I'm gonna go ahead and be a total sap here. This song is the same exact mix of sad and happy that real life love is. I’ve had many a single-tear-rolling-down-cheek moment to this song. Watch the video on your phone for the best effect.
THOMAS FRIGGENS (Sea Mouse): Cream - Sunshine Of Your Love
Valentine’s Day is my ma’s birthday. So my pick is a track by one of her favourite rock bands, Cream.
SCOTT MAYNARD (Sea Mouse): Sade - By Your Side
Sade. ‘Nuff said.
SEAMUS JOHNSON (Sea Mouse): Enrique Iglesias - Hero
George Thorogood 'Who Do You Love' is a high contender, but it’s got to be 'Hero' by Enrique Iglesias. The video is fan-fucking-tastic. A sex scene rolling around in cash should’ve won some oscars.
