Listen To 'Mansfield' Compilation Feat. The Bats, Mel Parsons, Lontalius + More

A.K. / Monday 24th February, 2020 11:37AM

Pōneke songwriter Charlotte Yates has unveiled her Katherine Mansfield compilation in full, showcasing the poetry of one of Aotearoa's most revered writers via the musical imaginings of local artists. Yates, understandably, says she's "delighted with the contributions and to have had the opportunity to see and hear what hatched", as the collection creates a snapshot of the Aotearoa songwriting scene from Aldous Harding's mother Lorina Harding, to rising star Lontalius, award-winning folk singer Mel Parsons, and everyone in-between. Lyttelton's Delaney Davidson puts a fuzzy, groovy spin on poem 'Pic-Nic', Godfrey De Grut presents 'Night-Scented Stock' as a soulful jazz composition with poet Tusiata Avia reciting the prose layered through the music, then there's The Bats, a perfect match for the tone of Mansfield's text, featuring a killer Kaye Woodward guitar solo. The full album will be presented live this June in Auckland and Wellington, take a listen to what you're in for here...

'Mansfield' is out now via Rhythmethod.
