Punk It Up V Postponed To October

C.C. / Image: No Tag / Saturday 21st March, 2020 2:05PM

It's sadly no surprise Punk It Up V is among this week's many events impacted by the coronavirus outbreak, however hope is on the horizon as Aotearoa's premier punk rock and ska blowout has revealed brand new dates for October 2020. Happening over two nights at Tāmaki Makaurau's The Bluestone Room (fka Zwines), Punk It Up V's stacked lineup will feature Proud Scum, The Instigators, No Tag (playing their last ever show), The Plague (feat. members of Blam Blam Blam, Pop Mechanix, Swingers), Australian cow-punk legends The Johnnys, fresh faces Contenders and Dick Move and so much more. That'll give you plenty of time to get your mohawk nice and spiky, grip the updated details below...

From the organisers (scroll down for full statement): "We are hoping that this nearly 6 month shift in Punk It Up V dates should allow for the world as we know it to return to some form of normalcy, but to even consider proceeding with our May dates is insane. Not only that, the economic hit that musicians and venues alike will have to bear over the next few months, makes it important that we get back to having events as soon as intelligently positive, in order to support our live music scene."

"
These are strange, difficult, and somewhat scary times for the whole world, and punk is no stranger to exceptional circumstances. However, the punk ethic tells us to persevere and to not give up in the face of adversity, as well as to always do the right thing, so Punk It Up V is being moved to new dates.

Due to recent announcements by the New Zealand Government, and in the interests of safety for our crew, bands, venue workers, and most importantly, our ticket holders, we are going to move the event to Friday October 30th and Saturday October 31st. The event will still be held at The Bluestone Room in Auckland's CBD, or as we intimately know it..."Zwines"

At this time, most of the bands have re-committed to performing on these new dates, and if you are clever enough, you'll notice that the Saturday night gig falls on a particular scary date - All Hallows Eve.

We are hoping that this nearly 6 month shift in Punk It Up V dates should allow for the world as we know it to return to some form of normalcy, but to even consider proceeding with our May dates is insane. Not only that, the economic hit that musicians and venues alike will have to bear over the next few months, makes it important that we get back to having events as soon as intelligently positive, in order to support our live music scene.

Ticket holders wishing to attend should retain their tickets, which will be valid for the new dates. Punters unable or unwilling to attend the new dates can obtain a full refund from Under The Radar. UTR will be emailing all ticket holders with this information, and the required steps for a refund, however we are hoping you can all make it! Additional tickets will still be for sale on Under The Radar.

We hope that if you already have a ticket, you are able to reschedule any other plans, including travel and accommodation, as many of the bands have had to do themselves. If your airline or hotel gives you any hassle, or tries to charge you an outrageous change fee, please post on our Facebook page, so the rest of us can stay away from these non-flexible businesses.

We're still planning on giving you the best possible weekend of punk rock'n'roll with performances from The Plague, one of New Zealand's first ever punk bands, Instigators getting together after quite a while especially for Punk It Up, up and coming punks Contenders from Hamtown, Tigers, the first ever Māori punk band, the incessant rabbiting of Proud Scum, the last ever gig from No Tag, and those crazy cowboys The Johnnys, among others.

Of course closing both nights, as is tradition with Punk It Up, will be bankRobbers, the All-Star covers band with X-Features/Fetus Productions musical guru Jed Town, No Tag's Andrew Boak, The Bombers' Shamus O'Brien, and X-Features drummer Chris King with a load of special guests joining them on stage.

Put all that together with a massive lineup of DJs including Dubhead, Miss Dom, Phil A, R.G. Bargy, Wastemaster, Johnny&The Dambusters, and many more, playing everything and anything they want to, both in between the bands, and late into the night at both night's after parties. There's also going to be information booths from some extremely worthy causes, free drinks for the best Halloween costumes, plus the myriad of vendors plying their wares, like band t-shirts and records etc etc, all adding up to a night, or in this case 2 nights, that you'll remember for a very very long time.

Speaking of records, Punk It Up is proud to announce it's first release on the Green Recordings label, a very limited edition, five song 7" E.P. from Rebel Truce - The Lost Tapes E.P. that will only be available at the gig itself. The E.P. of course has a remastered version of the kiwi punk classic "The Man Inside"

We hope that everyone is able to join us on these new dates, in the meantime, follow the guidelines from the scientists and doctors, wash your hands, look after each other... and lastly... UP THE PUNX!"
