Kraus Shares New Album 'A Golden Brain'

If a new album from Kraus is a notion to be cherished [spoiler: it is], then the Tāmaki Makaurau artist's latest collection A Golden Brain should rightly provoke street parades and the like, as it stands with the best from their back catalogue as being very good indeed. Primarily recorded over the past year in Kraus' Pudding Island HQ, the multi-instrumentalist's ten track collection offers timeless hits aplenty, spanning realms of troubadour-like guitar heroics, deep focus analogue synth magic and Rubik's Cube-esque sound shapery. Dare to delve into the title track's glimmering sonics, take a witchy thrill ride with 'Morgana Le Fay's Synthesizer Theme', enter the alluring and mysterious 'Pavilion of the Maidens' and more – with a noticeable and welcome emphasis this time around on themes of medieval horror with some of the track titles. Like defragging your brain or returning back to physical reality after some kind of sci-fi style, month-long self-isolation period, listeners will emerge from hearing A Golden Brain with a fresh perspective, viewing the modern world anew.

"Then he hewed the brain in an hundred pieces, and when he had done so he took up all those pieces, and threw them out at a window into the ditches of the castle."
