Julia Deans Covers Marlon Williams 'Come To Me' For NZ Music Month

C.C. / Friday 1st May, 2020 3:30PM

Julia Deans has teamed up with members of Shapeshifter and Arma Del Amor for a shimmering rendition of Lyttelton songwriting champ Marlon Williams' woozy 2018 single 'Come To Me'. The ex-Fur Patrol songwriter's new live video is the first in a series of covers being rolled out throughout NZ Music Month, which has tirelessly flown the flag in celebration of Aotearoa's multi-varied sounds every May since 2000. The theme for this year is a succinct yet crucial one, especially given the current temporary closure of venues across the nation: "Support local. Stream local. Follow local. Buy local." You can look forward to more high-caliber reimaginings of classic local tunes from the past twenty years and beyond throughout May. Check out the stonkin' rundown of online NZ Music Month events and initiatives here, and take in Deans' performance of 'Come To Me' with Martine Harding and Sam Trevethick, recorded by David Wernham.

"This is my favourite MW song. Since Marlon covered one of my songs years ago for the Silver Scrolls, it made sense to (hopefully) return the honour. Given that our household bubble is comprised of musicians, it also made sense to get everyone involved – though the enterprise was artfully avoided by the cat."

Bandcamp are waiving all revenue on purchases from 7.00pm Friday 1st May to 7.00pm Saturday 2nd May (NZT), You can continue to support NZ artists while venues are out of action by purchasing and streaming online.
