Finn Andrews Returns With Solo Single 'Wide Winged Bird'

Aotearoa's bars and venues have at long last reopened and The Veils frontman Finn Andrews welcomes a hopeful new era with his poetic solo single 'Wide Winged Bird'. A delicate, piano-led ballad showcasing the artist's impassioned vocal talents, today's release provides a fine bookend to our seemingly endless lockdown period, as it was recorded in early March 2020 at Auckland's Roundhead Studio's just prior to all the bars being closed down. Tiny Ruins members Cass Basil (King Sweeties) and Tom Healy lend a hand with instrumentation, alongside Dave Khan on violin, who is also playing with regular Andrews collaborator Reb Fountain at The Wine Cellar's grand reopening tonight. You'll finally be able to catch the famously hat-adorned artist live again, touring the nation in October – he opened up about his feelings around the new song, out now digitally...

“There was an old folk tale I heard when I was a kid, and it began with: there once was an ocean, and in that ocean there was an island, and on that island there was a hill, and on that hill there was a house, and in that house there was a room, and in that room there was a box, etc etc... This song isn't part of any new album campaign or anything, it's really just a playful image that I hope will be of some small benefit at the moment while we're all cooped up in our homes: a wide-winged bird flying over it all.”
