Mild Orange Share Single / Video 'First Taste'

Dunedin guitar-pop gurus Mild Orange released over the weekend brand new single and video combo 'First Taste', to help keep us grounded as we navigate our new post-lockdown realities. Hazy melodies and hopeful lyrics declaring "I know we'll be fine with you by my side" sweep listeners off their feet as the four piece blaze a trail into the sunset, with on-the-road visuals created by singer / guitarist Josh Mehrtens conjuring nostalgic feelings for times not so long passed. Mild Orange's keenly awaited second album is out this week, following their hugely successful 2018 debut Foreplay, which has helped the band clock over ten million streams so far. Mehrtens opened up to American Songwriter about the eerily prophetic themes explored with 'First Taste'...

"The song was written out of solitude – I spent a lot of time to myself over that summer missing people, reflecting on good times and waiting for the good and prosperous times ahead... Although now it seems a little prophetic for the lockdown circumstances right now. It was always intended to be an introduction song – the name ‘First Taste’ stuck from the start. When it’s acoustic it sounds quite country but then when the rest of the band (Jah, Barry and Jack) came in on it and added their parts in Riversdale Beach, it became an epic uplifting and very drivey rock song.”
