Watch The Flaming Lips Play 'Race For The Prize' Inside Giant Bubbles
With gigs back in full effect, Aotearoa can legitimately claim to have the best live music scene on the planet right now, as proven by last night's killer Whammy Bar reopening party. It'd be bad form to lord it over the rest of the world though, and US alt-rock legends The Flaming Lips have figured out an innovative solution to the performance puzzle of keeping audiences safe during a global pandemic. Fans of German philosopher Peter Sloterdijk (who explored ideas surrounding Bubbles, Globes and Foams in his three volume magnum opus Spheres) will be stoked to hear frontman Wayne Coyne and the gang performed their seemingly prophetic tune 'Race For The Prize' (from 1999's The Soft Bulletin) on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, entirely enclosed within huge transparent plastic bubbles – providing a glorious visual spectacle and keeping everyone virus-free in one fell swoop.
