IDLES Announce New Album 'Ultra Mono' + Unveil Single 'Grounds'

Chris Cudby / Wednesday 17th June, 2020 11:17AM

Bristol rabble-rousers IDLES have revealed studio album number three Ultra Mono is on the way, hot on the heels of ecstatic Aotearoa headline dates early last year and the massive international success of their 2018 long player Joy as an Act of Resistance. To whip up excitement to fever pitch, IDLES lift the veil on new single 'Grounds', a gruff and pounding call to collective action, teamed with a tensely cinematic lyric video directed by Rob French.

Recorded in Paris and produced by Nick Launay and Adam ‘Atom’ Greenspan, with Kenny Beats on additional programming, Ultra Mono was "sonically constructed to capture the feeling of a hip-hop record," and features guests Jehnny Beth (Savages), Warren Ellis (Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds), David Yow (Jesus Lizard), and Jamie Cullum. Given the turbulent state of the world in 2020, we're sure frontman Joe Talbot and the gang have plenty of material to chew on with their new record – dive into 'Grounds' below and be sure to tune into their livestream event on 29th and 30th August.

Joe Talbot enthused about IDLES' new song: “We wanted to write a song that embodied self-belief, and gave us self-belief - a counter-punch to all the doubt we build up from all the noise we so easily let in. We wanted to make the sound of our own hearts’ marching band, armed with a jack hammer and a smile. We wanted to make the sound of our engine starting. So we did. Thank you."
