Punk It Up V - New Dates & Venue Announced

New dates have been revealed for Aotearoa's premier celebration of punk rock and ska Punk It Up V, now locked in for Friday 19th and Saturday 20th February 2021 at the freshly updated venue of Tāmaki Makaurau's Galatos. Rescheduled so as to ensure Australian-based headliners can make it to the two-night extravaganza (and hopefully they won't have to experience 14 days of quarantine), punters can look forward to nothing less than an absolutely stacked bill of local punk heroes – including Proud Scum, The Instigators, No Tag (playing their last ever show), The Plague (feat. members of Blam Blam Blam, Pop Mechanix, Swingers), Australian cow-punk legends The Johnnys, fresh faces Contenders and Dick Move, DJs including Dubhead, Miss Dom, Phil A, R.G. Bargy, Wastemaster, Johnny & The Dambusters and so much more.

All bands have indicated that they'll be available for the new dates and gig-goers are advised to grab tickets while you can, as the updated venue has a slightly reduced audience capacity than the earlier announced Bluestone Room (fka Zwines) space. The organisers also have something awesome cooking to keep punks happy this Halloween...

"In the meantime, in order to give impatient punters a taste of what's coming, the team from Punk It Up are working on putting together a "Punk-o-ween" gig on Hellaween, Sat Oct 31, at Galatos. More details on that to come, but we can reveal that it will include the official release of PIU-001, a five song, limited edition, 7" vinyl record from Rebel Truce's "The Man Inside" sessions called "The Lost Tapes E.P.", that will only be available at the Oct 31 gig."

Press release:

Punk It Up are now extremely pleased to announce that PIU V will now be held, on the new dates, at Galatos, in the heart of Auckland's party scene, the infamous K' Rd strip. As capacity is always limited for Punk It Up, it's slightly more limited now, so we expect to reach the "no tickets left" zone much faster than normal. Tickets are still available at Under The Radar. The extra advantages of Galatos, such as less draconian noise control issues meaning the bands have to finish early, the Paul Crowther MNZM managed sound system, as well as the multiple levels of the venue, make it a slam dunk as a choice for Punk It Up V

It's no wonder that PIU V tickets will be the hottest commodity on the block, when you consider the band lineups, the plethora of DJs, and all the other band merchandise, punk vinyl records for sale, and the info booths, as well as, of course, the infamous After Party until bloody late.

Friday night, Feb 19, 2021, starts the two night extravaganza off with Instigators, especially reforming for PIU V, and they're joined by yet another act getting their shit together to reform, The Plague (with members of Blam Blam Blam and Pop Mechanix, among others). Proud Scum get their third PIU attendance badge as well, plus there's The Bludgers from Hamtown, new Auckland punk superstars Dick Move, and even The Barbs are getting in on the "reforming especially for PIU" scene as well.

Closing both nights, as is tradition with Punk It Up, will be bankRobbers, the all star covers band with X-Features/Fetus Productions musical guru Jed Town, No Tag's Andrew Boak, The Bombers' Shamus O'Brien, and X-Features drummer Chris King. They'll be making you pogo the night away with some well known covers, from both New Zealand and overseas punk bands, and will be joined by a plethora of guests from the NZ punk scene including Sonya Waters and Ed Geddes (The Instigators), Nick Hansen (Spelling Mistakes), Dean Martelli and Chris Orange (Terrorways/X-Features/Rebel Truce), with Dean playing his Burns Flyte guitar, that graced the cover of the essential NZ album AK79, and was recently re-purchased by Dean thanks to a very successful crowd-funding effort.

Saturday night, Feb 20, sees the return of them good ol' cow pokes The Johnnys, No Tag doing their final show ever, more Hamtown punk from current scene leaders Contenders, noise with extra noise from The Bombers, Tigers - NZs first all Māori punk band from back in the day, the lads from Devils Got-9, and once again, ruining the whole night at the end, bankRobbers and guests, however there's a small rumour that X-Features will drop a few tunes as well.

Put all that together with a massive lineup of DJs including Dubhead, Miss Dom, Phil A, R.G. Bargy, Wastemaster, Johnny&The Dambusters, and many more, playing everything from punk to ska to reggae and anything else they want to, in between the bands (and late into the night at both night's after parties), information booths from some extremely worthy causes, and the myriad of vendors plying their wares, like band t-shirts and records etc etc, and you have a night, or in this case 2 nights, that you'll remember for a very very long time.

N.B. Punk It Up will endeavour to keep the lineups as above, but reserve the right to adjust them slightly if logistics require.
