K M T P Shares Single / Video 'Acting Out' + Announces 'P.S. C U Soon' EP

Chris Cudby / Tuesday 14th July, 2020 10:32AM

Tamaki Mākaurau's K M T P aka Keria Paterson (b-lush, Polyester) follows up 2019's student radio anthem 'I Love My Friends', to these ears possibly the most wholesome solo debut in recent local history, with the gift of not only a smashing new audio-visual combo but the promise of an entire six song EP out soon named P.S. C U Soon. Released with a video directed by Karin Yamasaki and mixed / mastered by Jonathan Pearce of The Beths, 'Acting Out' is a bedroom-pop banger celebrating the virtues of not living your life according to another person's rulebook. Paterson sings "And now I know the point of acting out / is to get away from all the rules / that I don't choose / for you" while dancing around a room in their underwear with puppets and the wild feelings are gleeful and infectious. Paterson reflected on the origins of the tune and K M T P's solo creative process...

“‘Acting Out’ is about breaking out from a bad situation. It's all about accepting that circumstances can't always be changed for the better, and often it drives you to the point of insanity. Acting Out is about taking these feelings and just losing all control; going absolutely shit crazy...

The video is a visual portrayal of me "acting out". Being a solo musician, it's often hard to visualise a band when you're writing and performing all of the instruments in the recording process. I wanted to have puppets perform with me as it often feels vacant when you're writing songs as a solo musician, plus the obscenity of puppets in this song adds to the chaotic nature of the track ‘Acting Out’."

'P.S. C U Soon' is set for release on 14th August via Sunreturn / DRM.
