Two of Tāmaki Makaurau's leading voices in electronic music joined forces on Friday night, performing to an Audio Foundation jam-packed full of punters, for many of whom this was their first post-lockdown live experience. The solo experimental project of Amelia Berry (Amamelia, Baby Teeth, Fimo), Old Chips wielded a noise table decked out with lo-tech gear to conjure an analogue bubblebath of abstract sound shapes, in a manner not unlike a magician pulling endless multicoloured scarfs from some hidden realm. Celebrating the release of their latest opus A Golden Brain, now available in a must-cop limited cassette edition, a sequinned Kraus demonstrated newfound mastery of their Elektron Octatrack sampler, treating the seated crowd to a playfully time-warped tapestry of sounds and sensations from the album and beyond. Photographer Dave Simpson got into the swing of things, manipulating imagery from the show to create something compellingly new – look on his works and enjoy via clicking on the thumbnail pics below, and check out Kraus and Old Chips in conversation here...
