Songwriting sensations Phoebe Bridgers and Courtney Barnett teamed up through the wizardry of streaming technology for the 2020 virtual Newport Folk Festival – this year's necessarily online version of the historic Rhode Island annual event, shunted into the cybernetic realm by the coronavirus pandemic. Playing together on Sunday (2nd August, US time), footage has emerged of the pair performing a biting cover of Gillian Welch's 2001 ballad 'Everything Is Free', beamed in from their respective home studios in Los Angeles and lockdown-addled Melbourne.
