Gareth Thomas Unleashes Single / Video 'My Dog'
Formerly of local new wave legends Goodshirt, Gareth Thomas has been steadily building a following for his own solo pop musings. The first release from Thomas since 2016's long player Fizzy Milk (aside from his DIY NZ Music Month cover of Voom's 'Beautiful Day' in May), 'My Dog' is an understated yet upbeat wonky electronic pop number reflecting on both the 'Black Dog' of depression and the confusion that can come with too many options to choose from – inspired by when the songwriter's family dog went missing (and was happily found) in New Plymouth. Snazzily embellished with cute pixel art animated clip created by the artist and Sith Douang Kham Chanh, with help from Thievery Studio and the support of NZ On Air, you can learn all the words to 'My Dog', sing along at Gareth Thomas' forthcoming appearance at the absolutely stacked The Others Way 2020 festival in September [tickets available here], and look forward to an entire collection of new songs releasing in 2021.
Gareth Thomas explained the incident which sparked 'My Dog': "Our dog didn’t come home for two days. Late at night I found the panicked little guy halfway across New Plymouth. He was running up Tukapa Street frantically looking left to right to left to right. Too many corners to choose from. Panting furiously, his heart beating in a flutter and his eyes were glazed over. That was exactly how I felt. Too many turns to choose from, too many decisions and too many expectations."
