One of the silkiest voices in Aotearoa music, Dallas Tamaira aka Joe Dukie has shared his first solo single in more than two decades. Like many artists, this time of chaos meets monotony has been an opportunity to work on personal projects, and with Tamaira being thrown into isolation when the Fat Freddy's Drop album tour ground to a halt, he found himself in the same boat. Taking inspiration from the late, legendary Bill Withers, and an idea sparked by an Ans Westra photo of a mother and child, 'No Flowers' evolved into a song about the powerful women in his life. He explains, “It all came from that photo. In many ways there’s a little bit of her in all of New Zealand women. My Mum can relate to holding a kid and making bread with floury hands”, and the music video directed by Sarah Hunter and created with the support of NZ On Air documents gorgeous harakeke crafts, dyes and weaving. Drax Project producer and Pacific Heights musician Devin Abrams lent a hand in developing Tamaira's personal sound, a much more focussed affair than the usual Fat Freddy's crew of seven. Sink into the lush sounds of Dallas Tamaira and experience the song's gorgeous visuals here...
