Adrianne Lenker (Big Thief) Announces Two Albums + Shares Single
The prolific and seemingly faultless Adrianne Lenker of Big Thief has announced two new, entirely analogue albums named songs and instrumentals, and shared the softest folk single of 2020, 'Anything'. Calendar cleared by Covid, and hurtling towards a "whole new level of heartsick", Lenker did what any great songwriter does in a crisis: set up camp in a tiny mountain cabin — a setting she's likened to living inside an acoustic guitar. Eventually joined by audio engineer Philip Weinrobe, the pair spent weeks turning the single room into a bare bones recording studio, fitted with a Sony Walkman and an Otari 8 Track, and making daily trips to a creek to bathe. It's tempting to roll your eyes at a musician recording two albums in a mountain hut, completely analogue, using a paintbrush as a pick, but Lenker pulls it off with total sincerity. The first single from songs is gorgeous, and I've already listened to it ten times this morning...
'songs' and 'instrumentals' are out 23rd October on 4AD/ Rhythmethod.
