Kōtiro (Ana Chaya Scotney) Shares Single / Video 'Force Field'

Annabel Kean / Monday 14th September, 2020 12:51PM

Ana Chaya Scotney (Ngai Tūhoe) is a national treasure, and blows me away no matter what pie she has her finger in, whether on the stage, creating zines, the silver screen, or in her musical endeavours as Kōtiro. New single 'Force Field' is the driving lead track from HD Multinational, her EP out later this year on Kuini Qontrol / Sonorous Circle, and produced, mixed and mastered by Thomas Arbor. Speaking to Kuini Qontrol, Scotney touched on her many facets, including an undeserved self-deprecating comment on her approach to music making, "loop pedals are what non-musicians play to make music", despite her stunning compositional and vocal work on 'Force Field' — a song improvised in an afternoon in Point Chevalier. Co-created by Frankie Berge and Sam Small, the visual offering is a wicked watch, featuring Scotney and her magnetism in something of a metaphor for "death, then getting up and carrying on", with links to the story of Hine Titama’s (Dawn Maiden) transition into Hine Nui Te Pō (Great Woman of the Night). Enjoy the latest from Kōtiro below, and see why it's something to look forward to...
