Beloved by fans throughout Aotearoa, US guitar slinger Ben Harper is taking a different tack with his forthcoming record Winter Is For Lovers, the artist's first-ever entirely instrumental project, showcasing 15 original lap steel guitar compositions. He's revealed today the new album is launching on 23rd October, and shared a lush live video for evocative new single 'London', expertly performed solo in a studio setting adorned wall to wall with acoustic instruments (plus a cheeky skateboard too). Shifting emphasis onto elements which usually provide a backdrop for Harper's soulful lyricism, 'London' and earlier single 'Inland Empire' allow listeners to appreciate newly highlighted aspects of his craft — calling to mind the timeless rambling string sorcery of such folk guitar heroes as John Fahey, with Harper citing as influences on the new track Richard Thompson, Nick Drake, John Martyn and Jimmy Page.
